Moto went with Gorilla Glass 3, which is less durable than what many high-end phones use.
To make the screen bigger, the fingerprint sensor was relocated to the right side, which is a very convenient location. I wish it would have gone all the way and turn that fingerprint sensor into an actual power button, so now there is an extra power button on the left side of the phone.

The setup is mostly fine, and again, that fingerprint sensor is in a great spot, but the extra button did confuse my muscle memory. I found myself pressing volume buttons hoping for the power button, and hunting for that power button more than usual.
Even after a couple weeks, I still screw it up sometimes, which is a small hassle. Finally, like the other Z phones, Motorola has stubbornly eliminated the headphone jack, though it does include a USB C adapter in the box. If you're a Verizon customer and don't plan on switching anytime soon, there will also be an exclusive Moto Z3.
The Moto Z3 is a solid phone, but don't buy it for 5G just yet
It's locked to Big Red's network and you don't get the battery Moto Mod in the box. What you get in exchange is a faster Snapdragon processor, which was the fastest Android phone chip in and the same processor that was in last year's Z2. It'll still be a bit of a speed boost over the Z3 Play if you're a gamer, and the extra rear camera used for depth effects packs a few more megapixels. But, the Moto Z3 non-Play is also under embargo until later this month, so we haven't had a chance to give it the full review treatment just yet. If you're interested in that phone, rest assured that the Z3 Play is functionally about the same.
Affordable price. Includes a battery pack Moto Mod. Nice 6-inch OLED display. Solid battery life, even without the Mod. Compatible with all four major American carriers out of the box.

The fingerprint sensor is in a convenient spot, but the power button is strangely placed. No headphone jack. Finally, an all-metal frame wraps neatly around the entire device, gently curving to ensure that users are able to comfortably hold the entire phone in one hand. On the plus side, the phone is also splash-resistant thanks to a P2i nano-coating.
Motorola Moto Z3 Play
To begin with, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Since the company launched the Moto X in , Motorola has maintained a minimalist approach to Android. The Moto Z3 Play continues this tradition, providing users with an almost uninterrupted stock Android experience, customized with unobtrusive and welcome Motorola software tweaks.
In use, Face Unlock is speedy and effective, though for the sake of privacy and security, I quickly disabled the feature after my testing. While Motorola has always been known for its device build quality and software experience, the company has lost points in the past for its oft-disappointing smartphone cameras. Additionally, the camera itself is speedy to launch and quick to focus.
